The fifth research student meeting organised by the Academic Council of IBFD was held at IBFD's offices on 2 - 6 July 2006. Each day started with presentations from five students on their research in the morning, followed in the afternoon by discussion in small groups, and finally a plenary session in which the findings of the small groups were presented and discussed further.

The working sessions were mainly chaired by the members of the Academic Council. The Academic Council was also pleased to welcome the following guests to the meeting:

• Prof. Frans Vanistendael, University of Leuven,
  who chaired the working sessions on Tuesday 4 July and attended on Wednesday 5 July
• Junita Sogaran, University of Melbourne,
  who attended the whole week
• Prof. Gloria Teixeira, University of Porto,
  who attended on Thursday 6 July

At the end of the meeting the following prizes were awarded, each consisting of a free three-month online subscription to all IBFD's online publications:

• Prize for the best synopsis: Almut Breuer
• Prize for the best presentation: Nina Aguiar
• Prize for the best overall contribution to the meeting: Craig Latham

The "official" social events were a canal boat trip on Sunday 2 July and a farewell dinner on Thursday 6 July, but the participants found plenty of opportunity to indulge in some "unofficial" socializing on the remaining evenings!
